Naftogaz Group is the largest group of fuel and energy companies in Ukraine. It is engaged in exploration and development of deposits, production and exploration drilling, storage of oil and gas, supply of natural and liquefied gas to consumers. Ii increases assets of green electricity for the decarbonization of the Ukrainian economy. Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC is part of the Group.

Task

The IT infrastructure of "Naftogaz” NJSC was hosted on its own physical servers, which were "morally" outdated and did not meet the needs of modern automated systems. Technical specialists could no longer modernize them and, as a result, could not transform the infrastructure.

Then the management began to consider the use of cloud technologies. The updated IT strategy of the company demanded the same. It is based on the use of private clouds for hosting critical IT services. In addition, Naftogaz Group introduced cloud technologies back in 2018, so migration to the cloud would optimize infrastructure support costs.

Solution

In January 2021, the company announced a tender, and as a result of which the GigaCloud cloud operator offered the best conditions among all participants. Naftogaz NJSC moved physical and virtual servers to the PRO Cloud private cloud.

PRO Cloud is a physically isolated virtual infrastructure that is provided to the customer for exclusive use and has the highest level of availability and security, which is very important for companies with critical infrastructure.

The GigaCloud private cloud met the following customer's requirements:

  • the data centre in which the cloud infrastructure is hosted is located in Kyiv, within the same location;
  • information security management in the cloud meets the requirements of the international ISO 27001:2013 standard;
  • the cloud infrastructure is built using licensed software.

GigaCloud technical specialists helped migrate the IT services of Naftogaz NJSC to the cloud, providing high-quality and fast consultations and advice.

Result

After the company deployed its services in the GigaCloud private cloud, it received a number of opportunities.

"Cloud services, in comparison with a traditional IT system which is built on own equipment, give business several additional advantages," says Oleksandr Baranchuk, Head of IT department of “Naftogaz of Ukraine” NJSC. “This is an opportunity to increase computing power for your systems and increase the flexibility of their distribution between IT infrastructure components, reduce risks associated with the failure of outdated server and communication equipment, and increase the level of IT services continuity.”
